Back in our heyday with Lexicon, things were happening.
We had overseas tours lined up. Label offers on the table. Dedicated fans showing up for us. From the outside, it looked like we were on the verge of something huge, and honestly, we were.
But there was one thing always standing in our way.
Not the industry. Not bad luck.
Ourselves.
There were so many moments where the next big leap was right there in front of us, and yet, behind the scenes, I was in my own head:
- Overanalyzing every decision
- Doubting if we were making the “right” moves
- Comparing our journey to other artists’ highlight reels
Instead of riding the momentum, I was second-guessing it. Instead of appreciating what was happening, I was obsessing over what wasn’t happening. And without even realizing it, I slowed everything down.
By sending out mixed signals to the universe – and to myself – I created resistance that didn’t need to be there.
Looking back, it’s so clear now:
The industry wasn’t holding me back. The opportunities weren’t lacking. My mindset was the bottleneck.
And I see the same thing happen with artists today, every single day. Talented, driven, passionate musicians who unintentionally block their own growth by:
- Focusing more on obstacles than opportunities
- Getting paralyzed by perfectionism
- Waiting for ideal conditions instead of moving with what they have
It’s a brutal truth, but it’s also incredibly freeing once you see it. Because if you’re the one standing in your own way…
You’re also the one who can step aside.
If I could tell my younger self one thing, it would be very simple:
Stop getting in your own way. Trust the process. Celebrate the momentum. Move forward even when it feels imperfect. Stop overthinking every little thing. And for the love of music, stop comparing your path to anyone else’s.
I still remind my current self of that advice, honestly. Because the journey never ends, but the challenges evolve.
And the faster you can spot when you’re slipping back into doubt, fear, or hesitation, the faster you can shift back into flow.
Success doesn’t come from overanalyzing every move to death. It comes from showing up. Moving forward. Trusting yourself even when you don’t have all the answers yet.
If you’re caught in that cycle of hesitation and second-guessing, know this:
You’re closer than you think. The path opens up when you get out of your own way.
And if you need help translating that energy into momentum?
That’s exactly what we do at CentPourCent – help artists move with confidence, clarity, and presence, instead of getting stuck in their heads.
Because sometimes, the biggest breakthrough is realizing that the only thing you need to change… is your own approach.
Create with intent. Move with purpose.
